I remember it clearly; It was placed alone, amongst its peers. Gi-Joe Issue 7 glowed to me as I reached for it, forever sealing my soul to that of comics. January of 1983 was the time in which comics entered my life and I have in some ways been involved with them ever since. Now I don’t consider myself a fan boy by no means, I am not a continuity freak nor am I blind to certain characters and follow there stories faithfully, no matter how bad they become.

I am against bad comic book store owners who hawk there wears like heroin and do not take returns on mistook multiple issue purchases. But I digress, this should be me talking about my love for the books.

I am what you would consider a spontaneous purchaser of comics. When I walk into a store my eyes glaze over and I have little recollection of what has transpired within. This is a bad thing, which my wife Angie is quick to point out.

Recently have decided to completely stop collecting the single issues, which was hard. I have longboxes full of books that I will most likley not read again, and I though, why? The transition will be a hard one as I have stopped collecting books mid-story, so things are gonna be messy for me. But alas worse things can happen. And besides, trades and hardcovers just look better and are more accessable to sharing with comic noobs.

And thus we come to inspiration to the Wednesday Comic Book Review.

Enjoy!

I consider myself a new convert to comics. I was introduced through the creating side, when I met a group of Calgarians who draw and write comics. I love the medium. For the past couple of years I have made a few home grown comics and I have found some writers I really enjoy, such as David Mack, and Aronofsky. I am open to suggestions for stuff to read. I have to say, as an artist myself, I am mostly attracted to the visuals, but a good story is great too.

If you really want a little more info, I am also a mother of two boys, wife of Mark, and painter, an intern Architect, blogger, and a lover of Truth. Hey – thats reasonable isn’t it?

I’ve only been reading comics for the last 3 years, and hadn’t collected before then since my teens. For a good year and a half, I collected everything   that interested me. Now, I’ve reserved it to mainly trade paperbacks. I’ve discovered a lot of great works and some great writers and artists spanning various genres.  Some of my favorite comic series include The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Fables, Criminal, Y The Last Man, The Walking Dead, Astro City, The Exterminators, Conan, Northlanders, 100 Bullets, The Boys,  Invincible, The Exterminators and Preacher. For one-shot’s I’ve enjoyed titles such as Pride of Baghdad, Orbiter, The Watchmen, V For Vendetta, The Fountain, and Kickback. I’ve always got my eye open for cool new stories to read, so if you have some suggestions, let me know.

Too all you wonderful fans of Wednesday Comic Review… all 5 of you…

As far as I know I am still the only one in this group still regularly collecting monthly (single) issues of most of the books I read. As I said in my first intro on the show, I have had a very on again/off again experience with comics… but as it stands right now, it’s looking like I’m in it for the long haul. I had for a long time been solely interested in traditional superhero books such as Daredevil and Green Arrow (the two that got me started back into comics a few years ago). I finally started branching out and picking up more independant works which started with a great book called Proof, which is drawn by a local Calgary Artist (Riley Rossmo), which if you aren’t reading yet, get on it… it’s great, and I’m sure a soon to be reviewed trade. One thing you should know… I’m a sucker (most of the time) for a new #1 issue and will give anything a chance, so please, if you’re reading something and think it’s worth a gander, let me know and I’ll post on the site and let you know what I think of it. Hope you are all enjoying the show as much as I know I’m having being part of it!

Keep on reading!
